I was very honored to be part of the Digital Influencers Marketing Summit Cebu last November 24, 2012 being one of the panelists on how bloggers are becoming brand influencers and advocates.

Together with me were Fleire Castro and Rabsin De la Cruz, my colleagues in Cebu Bloggers Society, Inc. It was quite new to me sharing my insights and learnings to a crowd composed mostly of marketers, business people and entrepreneurs. There were also bloggers in attendance during the said event.

I talked about my humble beginnings as a blogger way back November 2003 when I was just thinking of a free site where I can post something then came this thing called "blog" and it was not yet an "in" thing before. Even my friends don't know what a "blog" is.

HTML Coding was also one of my challenges since I was still then a 2nd Year High School students and I want to improve the layout of my blog. I experimented it and through it, I was able to learn HTML. Then there's also the mistakes on spelling and grammar which I must say are my stumbling blocks. Though I'm not very particular of grammar in reading other blogs, it would still be good to learn on how to improve it. Besides, being a blogger is a like juggling a lot of hats: being the proof reader, writer, editor, layout artist, etc.

Politics and current events were driving forces for me to blog and also sustain in back then. Then came the Mar Roxas 2010 Blog which was about supporting and encouraging then Senator Roxas to run for President. That blog started around 2007 and rose to prominence which led to an award for being one of the Emerging Influential Blogs of 2008. It was quite surprising for me back then that one blog can go so far to somewhere I have never realized.

I have come across the thought that I might be evolving into an influencer given the people who interact on my post and the number of people I can persuade. Though I'm not sure of how effective it is but still, I can see myself leading to that way. It might sound ambitious but that's what I think.

My advice to the audience during the said summit was to have patience in order to be on such position as a brand influencer. It's not an overnight thing that you wake up and voila, you're a brand influencer. You need to build community and shape trust among the people you deal with and I can tell you, it takes a lot of time.

It was a great experience attending the summit though I was not able to finish it since I had another speaking engagement in CIT University with students about bloggging and Facebook marketing but still, I am very happy to have shared my journey as a blogger and my insights.

Thank you to Ms. Janette Toral, the owner and founder of DigitalFilipino.Com for the invitation! :)
