Sharing My Insights during the Digital Influencers Marketing Summit Cebu 2012

Posted by Kevin Ray N. Chua on 10:16:00 PM 0 comments

I was very honored to be part of the Digital Influencers Marketing Summit Cebu last November 24, 2012 being one of the panelists on how bloggers are becoming brand influencers and advocates.

Photo courtesy of Carlo Angelo Gonzales

Together with me were Fleire Castro and Rabsin De la Cruz, my colleagues in Cebu Bloggers Society, Inc. It was quite new to me sharing my insights and learnings to a crowd composed mostly of marketers, business people and entrepreneurs. There were also bloggers in attendance during the said event.

I talked about my humble beginnings as a blogger way back November 2003 when I was just thinking of a free site where I can post something then came this thing called "blog" and it was not yet an "in" thing before. Even my friends don't know what a "blog" is.

HTML Coding was also one of my challenges since I was still then a 2nd Year High School students and I want to improve the layout of my blog. I experimented it and through it, I was able to learn HTML. Then there's also the mistakes on spelling and grammar which I must say are my stumbling blocks. Though I'm not very particular of grammar in reading other blogs, it would still be good to learn on how to improve it. Besides, being a blogger is a like juggling a lot of hats: being the proof reader, writer, editor, layout artist, etc.

Politics and current events were driving forces for me to blog and also sustain in back then. Then came the Mar Roxas 2010 Blog which was about supporting and encouraging then Senator Roxas to run for President. That blog started around 2007 and rose to prominence which led to an award for being one of the Emerging Influential Blogs of 2008. It was quite surprising for me back then that one blog can go so far to somewhere I have never realized.

I have come across the thought that I might be evolving into an influencer given the people who interact on my post and the number of people I can persuade. Though I'm not sure of how effective it is but still, I can see myself leading to that way. It might sound ambitious but that's what I think.

My advice to the audience during the said summit was to have patience in order to be on such position as a brand influencer. It's not an overnight thing that you wake up and voila, you're a brand influencer. You need to build community and shape trust among the people you deal with and I can tell you, it takes a lot of time.

It was a great experience attending the summit though I was not able to finish it since I had another speaking engagement in CIT University with students about bloggging and Facebook marketing but still, I am very happy to have shared my journey as a blogger and my insights.

Thank you to Ms. Janette Toral, the owner and founder of DigitalFilipino.Com for the invitation! :)

Kevin Ray Chua, One of the Panelist in the Digital Influencers Marketing Summit Cebu

Posted by Kevin Ray N. Chua on 12:48:00 AM 0 comments

I am very honored to be one of the panelists of the upcoming Digital Influencers Marketing Summit Cebu on November 24, 2012.

The said event, which will be held at SM City Cebu Conference A&B Rooms, is a gathering of influencers and brand advocates to generate awareness and interest in what you have to offer.

For my role, I will be with Fleire Castro and Rabsin De la Cruz, to talk about how bloggers are becoming brand influencers and advocates given the fact that nowadays, ordinary people would definitely read reviews especially from bloggers on what they think of this and that before they consider buying a certain product or availing such service.

Some bloggers have also become influencers in their own right that they can mobilize people and gather support for a certain advocacy which can make a difference in the public discourse.

There will be also sharing on how newbie bloggers can start building their influence.

The said event is organized by Janette Toral, the owner and founder of DigitalFilipino.Com, a practicing Internet marketing consultant expert, Trainer, Blogger, policy lobbyist, and Entrepreneur(business and social), educator, researcher, Writer, ambassador, community leader, business leader, and the Mother of E-commerce law in the Philippines.

Tips for First-time Bloggers

Posted by Kevin Ray N. Chua on 11:03:00 AM 0 comments

When you are new to the blogging world, getting your name out there can be a daunting task. However, there are different ways that you can raise your profile and begin to get a following, so here are some tips for first-timers.

The first thing that you need to do is to decide what your blog will be about. It can really be about anything, from food to fashion, sports to partypoker. As long as it is entertaining and legal, you will have taken your first step to become a blogger. One way to make it big is to blog about something that no-one else has blogged about before.

However, seeing as there are more bloggers these days than ever before, the chances of being able to find an unexplored topic are very slim. The other solution is to simply give your blog something else unique, such as a different point of view from others. Make it as entertaining as possible and you should be able to get quite a few followers no matter what the subject matter is.

Another way to get your blog up to the top of the pile is to make it engaging. Allow readers to comment on your posts and reply to them as soon as you can. This level of personal interaction will be very valuable in attracting and keeping fans, so start as you mean to go on. You can also attract readers to your site by holding competition, quizzes or other fun games.

Update your content as much as possible, with regular, relevant posts. Become active on social networking sites, especially Twitter and make sure you let your readers know where to find you here. Persevere with your ambitions and let people see that you enjoy what you are blogging about. Tell friends about your blog and watch your fanbase grow.

World Bloggers Day 2012: It’s More Fun in Blogging and Social Media

Posted by Kevin Ray N. Chua on 3:30:00 PM 0 comments

Like it. Tweet it. Link it. And now Pin it.

These are the simple content and social marketing tasks bloggers do after hitting the Publish button. Posting, of course, takes precedence. But for other bloggers, it can be a challenge to create an article as compelling as those we read (or sometimes frown) on top blogs with the likes of MASHABLE, TechCrunch, LifeHacker, Copyblogger, Jezebel or even Perez Hilton.

World Bloggers' Day 2011 Celebration in different countries

For newbie bloggers, it’s a challenge to connect to other bloggers via online. We know them through reading their blogs. But because of a lack of physical contact, they can still be qualified as strangers at some point.

Bringing all bloggers in one location is next to impossible. Even with the World Bloggers’ Day (WBD) that is now on its 3rd year, the ambitious individuals who started it still find it hard to connect them all.

With the varieties of bloggers who exist in the Wide, Wild World of Internet, uniting them all seems impossible. Nevertheless, the capacity of a few bloggers to gather them is never a remote possibility.

The initiators of World Bloggers Day were able to connect to different blogging communities in different countries. Even though not all countries were involved, the dream of connecting with other bloggers in different countries came true.

Collectively, World Bloggers’ Day was a success. Many blogging communities signed up as WBD chapters organized online and offline celebrations in 2011.

Starting with World Bloggers’ Day Australia, Glen Frost was able to organize an event that involved him and other bloggers in Sydney for a blogging and Internet Marketing session with a keynote speaker. With a theme: How social media is changing corporate & Government communication. How you can use Facebook, Glen Frost and other Sydney bloggers were able to push WBD in Sydney, Australia. What made this event more awesome was that Ogilvy helped him in organizing it.

At Dubai, Ion Gonzaga integrated the World Bloggers’ Day event at GeeksTalk Dubai.

Meanwhile, the Nepalese bloggers chose the World Bloggers’ Day as their platform for launching a social network for bloggers and journalists, the Mero Report (www.meroreport.net).

Bloggers from Lebanon, Singapore, Myanmar, New Zealand and Pakistan were able to join us. Although they chose to celebrate the day online using Twitter, their participation was still valuable to us in more ways that we can count.

In the Philippines, Azrael Codilla, the founder of Manila Bloggers Network, celebrated World Bloggers’ day in a mall with other bloggers. The event was pulled through thanks to the valiant effort of Azrael.

In Cebu, the Cebu Bloggers Society organized a conference session with successful executives. The keynote speaker was Wilson Ng, who entertained the bloggers with his instrumental rendition of Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance.

Executives from Yahoo Philippines and SolidHosting.ph shared their inputs about social media and internet security at the Plenary Hall of RAFI Building.

The World Bloggers Day event in Cebu was also used as the avenue for oath-taking of the newly-elected officers of Cebu Bloggers Society, Inc.

Thanks to our sponsors: Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. Bo’s Coffee and Solidhosting.ph, WBD Cebu was a success.

Cebu Bloggers Society, Inc. is still spearheading World Bloggers’ Day this year 2012. We want to make a challenge to the bloggers worldwide on how they can spend the day after announcing the event in just a short period of time. We aspire to make blogging a fun activity for bloggers with the theme:

This year 2012, the initiators of World Bloggers’ Day came up with a theme that can encourage more bloggers anywhere in the world to push their blogging passion and efforts. It’s now just about posting an article, clicking the social media buttons and connecting with other bloggers. Integrating fun in blogging is a relevant ingredient to ignite or rekindle the passion in blogging--treating the blogs not just for business but regarding a blog as a platform for rewarding enjoyment.

The proliferation and increasing relevance of social media is not a supplementary factor, but an equally significant integration in blogging.

There’s no need for an offline event to organize. We encourage the World bloggers to use the social media to connect with other bloggers, breaking the barriers that only exist in international boundaries of jurisdictions.

The 2012 World Bloggers' Day was sponsored by Diamond Suites and Residences and Tatt Awards 2012. From us in CBSi, thank you very much! :D

Like it. Tweet it. Link it. And Pin it.

Using the social media, the Earth is a vast check-in place of bloggers with dots connecting them into one big cosmos.

The opportunities are still endless for bloggers who want to make it big online. Despite the competition, one or a throng of dedicated bloggers with a stronghold for determination and success-driven personality can pull off the blogging challenges.

Join us again for world Bloggers’ Day 2012. Use the Social Media to connect with more and more bloggers from around the world.

It’s more fun in Blogging and Social Media. And that’s what we should aspire in this small yet expansive world of blogosphere.

About World Bloggers’ Day

Initiated by Cebu Bloggers Society, Inc., World Bloggers’ day is an annual blogging event that started in 2010 at Cebu, Philippines. In 2011, it expanded to other countries that included Australia, Dubai, Lebanon, Singapore, Nepal, New Zealand, Myanmar, Pakistan and South Africa. A Safe and Effective Way to Treat Acne

Posted by Kevin Ray N. Chua on 9:33:00 PM 0 comments

Puberty years are usually the time when that acne pops out and if we're not able to handle the problem properly, it would result to decreased self-confidence especially among teens who are starting to stand out.

This topic is quite awkward to talk about but it's something that we all must face. Acne can make or break ourselves during our puberty years. I have friends who have succeed at their best despite having severe acne problems but not all have that guts. Also, those people who have severe acne problems who happen to be successful also wish to keep those acne away.

What causes pimples or acne? Part of it would be your pores being clogged by dead skin cells. Another would be oil building up in that area. When a portion is affected, acne bacteria multiplies fast if your skin is oily. It turns red and swells as your immune response fights off the bacteria proliferation.

During my high school years, acne was one of my problems. Being a student leader, you need to meet and talk with different people and having an acne was just so uncomfortable. There were times that it pops out the least you expect it. Probably, this was because I slept too late, my fatty diet and I seldom wash my face before sleeping. Thus, it was haunting me.

Thinking of the cost, I was hesitant to use products that stop acne on the first sign of its appearance. I just let it pop out. There's also the temptation to burst it just like everyone else. The result, I have some scars on my face after being tempted to thwart that acne on growing bigger.

Someone recommended me to use kalamansi or Perla soap to keep acne away on my face but kalamansi was just so harsh and Perla soap ended up drying my face. That person told me that it worked for him but it seemed not working for me. So, after a few days of doing those rituals, I ditched it. Instead, I was just praying day by day that acne will keep away. Naks!

Then there's Proactiv, something I have heard before on TV. My cousin who also was struggling from acne problems bought some Proactiv products and I decided to try it. After a few weeks, I was able too see the result and it was far off better to what I tried. Too bad I wasn't able to finish that treatment since I was sharing the product with my cousin but I saw the improvement. I had less occurrence of acne compared to before when it was almost every week.

The product proved to be effective and safe compared to the usual products which had side effects. Besides, when it won't work with you, there's a money back guarantee! Take that other products!

Not only teens think on how to manage pimples and skin care problems. Even adults too. It's always a challenge on how to keep those away but good thing, there's a good product out there in the market which helps you face the problem... safely and effectively. :D

Free PLDT WiFi this Sinulog 2012

Posted by Kevin Ray N. Chua on 11:45:00 PM 0 comments

Many are asking if there will be indeed a Free PLDT WiFi this Sinulog 2012. Well, one significant detail to set the Sinulog 2012 celebrations apart is the introduction of PLDT WiFi Zones all across public thoroughfares and establishments nearest the event to maximize the Sinulog experience.

In partnership with the Cebu City Government through the Office of the Mayor, Councilors Roberto Cabarrubias and Mike Ralota, the free PLDT WiFi this Sinulog 2012 through the PLDT WiFi Zones have been set up in time for Sinulog 2012 but will be a service made available to Cebuanos year round starting January 12. The PLDT WiFi Zones may be accessed in Gen. Maxilom Avenue (PERMANENT), Gorordo to Fuente Osmeña Circle (PERMANENT), Osmeña Boulevard (PERMANENT), Portions of N. Bacalso Avenue and P. Del Rosario (PERMANENT), the Cebu City Sports Center (TEMPORARY INSTALLATION UNTIL JAN. 16 ONLY), Cebu City Hall (PERMANENT), Cebu Provincial Capitol (PERMANENT), Magellan's Cross (PERMANENT) and Plaza Independencia (PERMANENT) and many other establishments.

The service will be FREE for the duration of the festival. Consumers just need to look for the PLDT WiFi Zone Booth strategically located along the festival route to get their FREE WiFi Zone PINS.
"PLDT has always considered Cebu as one of its priority cities. With the unveiling of its latest technology, the PLDT WiFi Zones, the Sinulog festival, every Cebuano's proudest moment, can now be shared throughout the world as it takes place," according to PLDT Head of Cebu Operations Bong Lintag.

PLDT Vice President for Data Acquisitions Retail Business Group, Gary Dujali, believes that powering Cebu up for its biggest festival will prove to be a great development for everyone involved.
"This new service we are proud to finally launch in Cebu is an extension of our subscribers' internet connection at home. They can take advantage of ultra fast and reliable WiFi service not just at home but everywhere in the city."

Residents of Metro Manila can attest to experiencing WiFi like no other from more than 2,000 establishments upgraded to the WiFi Zone just from last year.

And if you just don't know, it was Cebu City Councilor Bob Cabarrubias who took the initiative to make this happen and also the positive response of PLDT Head of Cebu Operations Bong Lintag. Something that we called as a dream is now a reality.

For the first time in Sinulog history, people can now share what they're going through online and in real time as PLDT WiFi Zone is right where all the festivities are centered! Posting photos in real time of the most colorful costumes, the most captivating Cebuana beauties, or even your best dance moves won't have to wait after the festival is over.

PLDT WiFi Zone is the same unlimited myDSL connection you take with you outside the home and is made even more convenient by utilizing JUST ONE USERNAME and PASSWORD when you connect to it.

Experience PLDT WiFi Zone now for as low as P150 a month for PLDT myDSL subscribers and P 300 a month for PLDT landline subscribers. PLDT subscribers can register at www.pldtwifizone.com to try the service out for free until January 15 in the midst of the Sinulog merriment and to be privy to areas in Cebu that are set to be upgraded to the WiFi Zone in the near future.

And tell your friends that indeed, there will be a free PLDT WiFi this Sinulog 2012. Just be careful with your gadgets when you access that WiFi. Criminal elements will always be around. ;D

NetSuite announces key developments of their Philippine operations; plans to expand in Cebu in the future

Posted by Kevin Ray N. Chua on 3:24:00 PM 1 comments

NetSuite, the world's No. 1 cloud ERP, in their annual media press conference held at Sharing-la Makati held last November 22, 2011, announced the key developments of their Philippine operations. One of which was a great news that Yuchengco Group of Companies (YGC) has adopted NetSuite OneWorld PH to manage 11 of its subsidiaries, including five companies held by its House of Investments subsidiary.

NetSuite OneWorld PH provides rapid deployment, integration with Oracle ERP at the corporate headquarters, agility and scalability according to YGC.

NetSuite OneWorld PH has been localized for the accounting rules, usage conventions, statutory and regulatory requirements of the Philippine market, including tax reporting requirements mandated by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR). This feature surely enables accountants to save time from those complicated computations which could further delay their tax computations.

NetSuite OneWorld PH is the perfect solution for Philippine businesses to manage their domestic and global businesses in the cloud, whether they are locally headquartered or a division of a larger, multinational enterprise.

NetSuite's CEO Zach Nelson also made a presentation to the media about the recent developments of NetSuite and announced their new partners. Presented also during the press conference were the companies' success stories on how they were able to improve their business with the use of NetSuite OneWorld PH.

Sixteen universities worldwide have already made the move to the cloud by adopting NetSuite as a key component of their accounting degree curricula. Purdue University; University of California, Los Angeles; University of Toronto; Mapúa Institute of Technology; De La Salle University and University of San Carlos in the Philippines are among some of the institutions that have embraced NetSuite, for many of the same reasons that thousands of companies worldwide have switched from on-premise software to the NetSuite cloud—to keep pace with 21st century business and computing trends, avoid integration hassles, and escape the vicious cycle of software upgrade and the high maintenance costs caused by on-premise software such as SAP, Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains and QuickBooks.

Here in Cebu, aside from University of San Carlos, NetSuite is also looking on partnering with other schools like Cebu Institute of Technology-University and University of San Jose-Recoletos in the months to come and integrate NetSuite in the school curriculum.

For more information about SuiteAcademy, please visit http://www.netsuite.com/suiteacademy.

Today, more than 10,000 companies and subsidiaries depend on NetSuite to run complex, mission-critical business processes globally in the cloud. Since its inception in 1998, NetSuite has established itself as the leading provider of enterprise-class cloud ERP suites for divisions of large enterprises and mid-sized organizations seeking to upgrade their antiquated client/server ERP systems. NetSuite excels at streamlining business operations, as demonstrated by the 2011 CODiE Award for Best Financial Management Solution, as well as a recent Gartner study naming NetSuite as the fastest growing financial management systems vendor in the world. NetSuite has continued its success in delivering the best cloud business suites to businesses around the world, enabling them to lower IT costs significantly while increasing productivity, as the global adoption of the cloud is accelerating.
