Come Sinulog 2011, the Archdiocese of Cebu will have a new Archbishop in the name of the outgoing Archbishop of Palo, His Grace the Most Reverend Jose S. Palma, D.D. Outgoing Archbishop of Cebu, His Eminence Ricardo J. Cardinal Vidal, D.D. will surely be missed by us Cebuanos who were under his flock for the past three decades.
Tomorrow will be the start of a new chapter for the Roman Catholic Church here in Cebu as a great event will unfold.
This will be the itinerary for tomorrow's changing of guards in the Archdiocese of Cebu after Cardinal Vidal's three decades of service:

January 13 (THURSDAY)
Upon assumption of his new job after he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI last October 15, 2010, Palma will be called as His Grace instead of His Eminence, which Cebuanos used to call Cardinal Vidal.
The Archdiocese of Cebu is the Philippines' number one when it comes to the size and number of priests and number of lay faithful with 365 diocesan priests, 382 religious men, around 1,100 religious women and 465 seminarians. Cebu has around 3,818,027 Catholics.

- 3:00 PM - Bishop Palma's arrival at Mactan-Cebu International Airport and a motorcade to the Archbishop's Residence
- 4:30 PM - Liturgical Reception at the Chapel of St. Joseph
- 7:00 PM - Dinner Reception at the Sacred Heart Center, D. Jakosalem Street

What a wonderful information to know about it.. That's a great event for the Roman Catholic Church. Our new Archbishop of Cebu ? Rev. Jose Palma a devoted Marian.....and His Eminence Archbishop Ricardo J. Cardinal Vidal is Cardinal Priest and the Archbishop-emeritus of Cebu in the Roman Catholic Church. On October 15, 2010 his resignation as archbishop of Cebu was accepted by Pope Benedict XVI and he will be replaced by Archbishop Jose S. Palma, currently the Archbishop of Palo, on January 13, 2010.

@ Sidney - You're welcome Sidney! Indeed, it is a great event just like having a new President of our country. After three decades of Cardinal Vidal's dedicated service to Cebu, his successor Most Rev. Archbishop Jose Palma will be filling his shoes. Together, let us welcome our new Archbishop! :D
